The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has urged all leaders of political parties and security agencies in the country to show leadership by availing themselves in dealing with the issues of vigilantism in Ghana.

This comment of Mr Nkrumah comes after President Akufo Addo during the 2019 State of the Nation’s Address on Thursday appealed to the NDC and NPP to sit and deal with vigilantism in Ghana.

“I want the NDC and NPP to meet and bring an end to political vigilantism in our country.”

“What was tolerated over the years cannot and must not be accepted anymore. We must not take our peace and security for granted not for a moment. Our children and grandchildren will not forgive us if we were to compromise our peace and stability, I will not permit that to occur under my watch” he said.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Show, Mr Nkrumah emphasized: “ordinarily, vigilantism is not a bad thing.”

“It is important for the leaders of the parties and the security agencies to show leadership and go around the table to deal with the act of political vigilantism.”

“The constitution requires citizens to rise in a vigilante manner to defend the constitution and the principles of equity also support vigilante and not indolent. However, the direction in which this act is heading now is what makes it dangerous.”

The Minister added he believes the parties and all other stakeholders are willing to deal with the issue.

“The chairman of the NDC, Ofosu Ampofo also shares the same sentiments with the president so let’s give ourselves the opportunity because it is not beyond Ghana to do this.”
