The President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Frank Ankobiah, has said that the operator of Obengfo Hospital, Dr Dominic Obeng-Andoh, is a medical doctor.

“He is a doctor, in fact, I know him; I know him personally as a doctor and member of the GMA…,” he said on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ on Wednesday.

The qualification of Dr Obengfo was questioned following the death of Stacy Offei-Darko, who was the deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship Innovation Programme (NEIP) at his hospital.

Stacy Offei-Darko is reported to have passed away at the Obenfo Hospital in Accra on Monday, May 21, 2018.

However, the hospital authorities decided to deposit her body at the morgue four days after her death without informing her family members.

According to the family, the body of the deceased was deposited at the morgue within four hours after her death and was informed about the incident three days later.

This development infuriated the family and friends of the deceased leading to the arrest of Dr Obeng-Andoh.

Claims of the Medical and Dental Council that the license of Dr Obengfo has expired has led many to question the qualification of the doctor.

Reacting to this, the President of the body of medical doctors in the country said he knows Dr Obengfo personally as a qualified medical doctor.

He however could not confirm if the embattled surgeon had a license to operate a hospital.

“It’s only Medical and Dental Council that will show whether he has renewed his license or not, we (GMA) can’t tell because we only look at the license when he/wants to be a member…,” he said.

Dr Ankobiah said he will look for an opportunity to interact with Dr Obengfo to know his side of the story.

“We will look for an opportunity to go and see him so we know what actually occurred…we will investigate it, look for a time and talk to him so we will know his side of the story,” he said.
