The Ashanti Regional Police Command has banned the use of motorbikes in and around polling station during the presidential primaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday Feburary 23,2019.

The decision was reached after a meeting with regional executives of the party.

Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Gordin Ahianyo disclosed this on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Thursday.

He explained that, the move is part of a resolve “to provide adequate security to ensure incident-free elections devoid of violence and acts of lawlessness.”

The Police PRO warned that “whoever is seen riding motorbikes close to the polling centres will be arrested and the motorbike impounded.”

He also stressed that, “busing of party taskforce members to polling centres shall not be entertained.”

ASP Ahianyo added that, they are on high alert after a shooting incident at the Ashanti Regional NDC office in Kumasi that left one dead and one other injured.

The decision by the police follows a shooting incident at the NDC Regional office while led to one death and another injured.

The suspects said to be members of the party’s vigilante group, Hawks have been put on wanted list.

Police have said four alleged members of the Hawks, are suspected to be behind the attack.

A statement from the police named the suspects as Warrior, Mijinmma, Damos and Abu Taliban and called on the public to help arrest them.
