National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer hopeful, Sylvester Mensah, says generalizing all former appointees as corrupt is bad and does not augur well for the country’s democracy.

He said embarking on public campaign of corruption when the facts are not clear is not also useful.

“Anybody who has headed any organization in this country, whether as a minister or CEO can be investigated by anyone at any time but doing it in public is very bad. Is that the trend that we want to see in this country”, he quizzed.

Mr. Sylvester Mensah’s comment follow his invitation and subsequent investigation by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) in connection with alleged fraud by some National Health Insurance Scheme service providers in 2016.

The former CEO was in 2016 under investigation by the BNI in connection with alleged fraud by some National Health Insurance Scheme service providers.

Sylvester Mensah subsequently had his bank account frozen by the Financial Intelligence Centre under the Bank of Ghana.

This was after an ex-parte application filed by the Financial Intelligence Centre and granted by an Accra court.

According to the BNI, some medical facilities have been falsifying documents and submitting bloated claims to the NHIA. In some cases, officials of such medical facilities colluded with officials of the NHIA to defraud the authority.

But speaking exclusively on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Monday, the Former boss of the National Health Insurance Authority, believes some of these exercises should be undertaken on the quiet.

He said the moment there is a public enquiry, then the general assumption is that there is a matter of corruption, a situation he said it’s destroying futures and individuals accused of being corrupt.

“This issue of investigating a person in public is destroying individuals. The moment there is a public inquiry, then it means the person is corrupt which I think is bad and very wrong.

“I was investigated, but up till now, there are no charges; let us not abuse the word “corruption” because it doesn’t speak well for our country”, he urged.
