Director General of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Robert Sarfo Mensah has confirmed the Tamale sports stadium will be named after former vice president, Alhaji Aliu Mahama.
This, he noted is in honour of the how the former vice president help accelerate Ghana’s development.
Mr. Sarfo Mensah disclosed this on Asempa FM’s Ultimate sports show Tuesday.
He indicated that, a ceremony will be help on  Sunday, December 10 to make it official.
“We have put all plans in place to have a colorful ceremony in Tamale on December 10 to name the stadium after such a great man who served our nation” he stated.
“There is no written rule about naming and renaming state edifice or stadia after personalities. The decision solely lies with the government and Sports Ministry and I applaud the government for this decision” Sarfo Mensah added.
Alhaji Aliu Mahama was the first Muslim and fourth vice president of the Republic of Ghana from January 7, 2001 to January 7,2009 under the Kufour administration.
