Hip-life artiste, Nana Kweku Duah, popularly known as Tic Tac has been awarded GH₵ 300,000 as compensation against one of the largest retail shops in Ghana, Melcom Limited.
Tic Tac sued Melcom demanding a whooping GH₵ 500,000 in damages for breach contract – illegally using his image for promotional purposes.
He won the case at the Accra High Court on Friday, November 17, 2017.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, the hip life musician disclosed that, although his two-year brand ambassadorial contract with Melcom expired five years ago, the company continued to mount Billboards and stickers with his pictures on it.
In spite of this, he explained he had to agree on a GH₵300,000 because he wanted to be sincere with them.
“I was the brand icon. I had a two year contract. After the two year contract, there was a six month extra to bring down the endorsement. Normally if you have a good relationship with them, you can give them a year. But over four years, I could see images of myself as directional signs to Melcom shops, and also some billboards…” he explained.
Tic Tac continued that, “I used the rule of law and it worked in my favour. I will put more value on my image than that. I couldn’t mention something that will be outside the box. Let’s be realistic. We put up five hundred thousand. I think my image was more than that…” he maintained.
The ‘Do All’ hit maker further advised fellow industry players to believe in their brand as the key to bettering their lives.
“It’s not a direct judgement. It took a year and some months. I believed in my image. And when you do its difficult for someone to take you away…” he said.
