The Founder of the Centre for Freedom and Accuracy, Andrew Awuni is warning President Akufo-Addo not to interfere in the work of Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu.
He explained that, the Akufo-Addo government will be humiliated by the former Attorney General in the erstwhile Mills regime if he [Amidu] is not given the leeway to do his work independently.
“He doesn’t care he’ll leave his job and come out to expose you if you try to obstruct him in his duty,” Mr. Awuni disclosed this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday.
President Akufo-Addo on Thursday January 11, 2017 named the former Attorney General as the Special Prosecutor subject to Parliamentary approval.
This comes after President Akufo-Addo assented to five Acts including that of the Special Prosecutor on January 2, 2017, which were passed by Parliament last year.
Parliament passed the Office of the Special Prosecutor Bill in November last year, which allows for the establishment of an independent anti-corruption institution to deal with public officials who have been deemed or found liable to corrupt dealings.
The law now gives power to the new independent prosecutor who’s tasked with the responsibility of prosecuting past and present public officers deemed to have been corrupt.
Speaking on Ekosii Sen programme, Andrew Awuni said Martin Amidu is more than qualified for the job.
He noted that, as an independence minded person, Mr. Amidu cannot be toyed with easily thus those considering sabotaging him should rethink.
“Let me take the opportunity to advise all the president’s appointees who’ll have anything to do with the establishment of Martin Amidu’s office that they should be careful with him. He’s a double-edged sword. if you don’t know him too well search for his character and know how to deal with him.”
Andrew Awuni called on government to resource Mr. Amidu to enable him do his work effectively.
