The Anti-Galamsey Taskforce, Operation Vanguard has requested for more resources from government to extent its operations to the Central Region.
The joint Police/Military deployment was initially tasked to combat illegal mining in the Ashanti, Eastern and Western Regions.
Operation Vanguard has in the past few weeks made some arrests including seven Chinese and their Ghanaian collaborators at Brofoyedru.
But according to the Public Relations Officer of Operation Vanguard, Squadron Leader Oman Agyei, the Taskforce is handicapped due to logistical constraints including the absence of drones and low bed trucks.
He said several appeals to government for support have not yielded results.
“We need a lot of vehicles so that we can conduct more operations, also we need a drone and this is something we have always mentioned to higher authority. For a site like this you can just use a drone to capture the area and those involved in the mining. We need low bed trucks to move excavators to the districts or municipal assemblies. These are the three main challenges we have.”
