Acting General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has jumped to the defence of the Inspector General of Police David Asante-Apeatu over recent calls for him to resign.
According to him, the minority in parliament, clamouring for the dismissal or resignation of the David Asante- Apeatu have no case.

“So what will happen when the IGP is sacked, will the robberies in the country stop? Will all those being robbed get relief? What at all is the minority fighting? They need to sit up because they have no case calling for the head of the IGP” he said on Accra-based radio, Neat FM.
The Minority in Parliament had, in a press conference, called on president Akufo-Addo as a matter of urgency to relieve the Inspector General of Police of his post over the increasing spate of armed robberies in the country.
They argued that the security situation in the country has worsened under the watch of Mr. Asante-Apeatu as they believe he was doing little to address the problem.

But Mr Boadu says the minority should rather channel their energies into supporting the IGP to clamp down on criminals rather than always ranting in the media.
According to him, with the kind of leadership the Service has been blessed with, he was sure they would be able to reduce crime, particularly armed robbery, to the barest minimum.

Meanwhile, the Government has announced that combined teams of police and military officers will be deployed to patrol major cities in the country as part of efforts to combat the increasing armed robberies.
The Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid, disclosed this at a press conference on Thursday. According to him, the decision was taken after an emergency meeting between the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Security heads in the country.
