A 31-year-old woman has died at Gomoa Fetteh’s Village of Hope Hospital after doctors had conducted surgery on her womb.
The deceased, Edith Annan, was said to have had her womb allegedly operated upon by doctors after she had delivered a set of twins at the hospital.
Edith’s mother, Mary Annan, who spoke to Adom News on the issue said her daughter’s time was due for delivery so she was sent to the Village of Hope Hospital where doctors recommended surgery, following some post-delivery complications.
According to her, doctors informed them later that they had conducted surgery on her daughter’s womb because of the complications.
Madam Annan furtheralleges that a few minutes after the womb was operated upon without informing the family, the deceased started bleeding so she had to be rushed back to the theater where she was pronounced dead shortly after.
Listen to Madam Annan’s narration in Twi below:

A senior doctor at the Village of Hope Hospital, Dr. Alex Piasah, has confirmed the incidence but said husband of the deceased was informed through a midwife about the need for the operation to which he gave his consent.
He said the doctors monitoring the deceased’s condition could not convey the need for the operation to the husband themselves because the lady’s condition had deteriorated and needed constant monitoring.
The operation, according to him, became necessary because the deceased’s blood pressure had dropped and her womb had failed to contract as it should.

But uncle to the deceased, Kwabena Annan, says the hospital has apologised to him, asking him to forgive them because it was a mistake.
Mr. Annan who insists that the family was not consulted before the surgery has therefore threatened to sue the hospital as well as the doctors for not informing the family before going ahead with the operation.

But Dr. Piasah says they did all their best by giving the woman seven pints of blood to save her life.
According to him, the hospital has an initiative in place to help the families of such children and this particular twins will also benefit from such a package.
