HOT AUDIO: FDA investigates Oti Boateng SHS ‘poisinous’ waakye

The Food and Drugs Authority and the Ghana Health Service have launched investigations into a suspected food poisoning incidence at Oti Boateng Senior High school at Koforidua in the Eastern Region where eleven (11) students were hospitalized.

Over a dozen students of the School are reported to have been hospitalised over what school authorities suspect to be a foodborne illness.

Reports say the students started complaining of severe tummy upsets after they ate ‘waakye’, a popular meal prepared with rice and beans.

Although school authorities are yet to officially speak to the issue, a source close to the school has told JoyNews that scores of students complained of diarrhoea after consuming the food.

Headmaster of the school, John Hawkson Arthur tells Adom news the affected students allegedly ate the waakye bought from a bush canteen near the school.

According to him, the students who were rushed to the hospital have been treated and discharged.

Mr. Hwakson Arthur allayed fears of parents who were panicking after hearing the news and assured them of their wards’ safety.
