Government has revealed its intention to prosecute tax evaders and corrupt officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
This move, according to Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta is to maximize revenue and discourage the evasion and stealing of taxes.

Presenting the mid-year budget review of 2018, he noted that a special VAT taskforce to ensure enforcement and deepen VAT penetration from the current low levels of 11 per cent and institutional reforms at GRA.
He noted that As part of efforts to improve revenue performance, government will intensify tax compliance and plug existing revenue leakages.

“Investigations we have undertaken show inbound leakages on goods arriving in the country, significant outstanding tax debts, suspense regimes in the area of warehousing, transit trade, and free zones, and tax audit issues such as limited coverage”, Mr Ofori Atta opined.
The Finance Minister noted that domestic revenue mobilization reforms are being carried out in the areas of automation of systems, process improvement and change in culture.

Ken Ofori Atta is convinced if all revenue loopholes are plugged, the government will realise enough revenue for developmental projects.
