Winner of Miss Samanpiid in the Upper East Region, Sheila Anapoa Awindago has thrown her support behind government to fight against tramadol in the Upper East Region.

Abuse of the pain-relieving drug, tramadol, is on the rise in Ghana with high doses of 250 and 300 milligrams being sold at drinking spots and other unauthorized places.

Two users who shared their experience with the drugs with Luv News reporter, Erastus Donkor in Kumasi said they get their stock from drug peddlers from neighboring countries.

It is on the back of this that the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has said it is widening its wings in the fight against the abuse of Tramadol.

According to Awindago, Ghana needs responsible youth to continue the good works of their fathers hence her decision to join efforts of government to fight abuse of the drug.

The lady who is also a nurse said her experience with some abusers indicate that some people use the tramadol for sexual activities even though it is a drug meant for mild pain.

Awindago whose project is to help bring sanity to her community says she has managed to speak with some chiefs and Members of Parliament (MPs) in the area who are willing to collaborate with FDA to fight against the menace.

She further called on Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), individuals and philanthropists to support in order to curb abuse of tramadol in the Upper East Region.
