Presidential hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is cautioning supporters of former President John Mahama to be circumspect in their expectations ahead of the party’s flagbearer elections.

Professor Joshua Alabi who is now a leading contender in the race said John Mahama’s supporters will be laughing at the wrong side of their mouths when he is declared flagbearer of the NDC.

The NDC will in February 23 elect a flagbearer ahead of the 2020 general elections.Many political pundits have said the election will be a cool chop for former President Mahama who has been marketed by the party.

But he faces about six other candidates many of whom served in his government – an indicated that, he failed as President.

In spite of this challenge, majority of NDC members including Members of Parliament have endorsed his candidature and are certain he will wrestle power.

But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Joshua Alabi said he is worried about the confidence of Mahama’s supporters.

He explained that, the same people claiming Mahama will win, were the same people who said NDC was in a comfortable lead in the 2016 general elections which they lost woefully.

“During the USA elections, everybody said Hilary Clinton will win and in 2016, everyone said NDC will win but what happened? Cool chop for Mahama? I laugh enter my bedroom” he opined.

Prof Alabi challenged John Mahama to prove his popularity on the battlefield because “I will give him a run for his money”.

“The elections will be a trailer because I have worked very hard and delegates have assured me of massive votes” he added.

Prof Alabi said if elected flag bearer, he will make the grassroots central in decision making in the NDC to ensure they are united for victory in 2020.
